The Essential Guide to Healing Book Review

February 20, 2012 by · Leave a Comment

I’ve also been reading¬†The Essential Guide to Healing: Equipping All Christians to Pray for the Sick by Bill Johnson and Randy Clark. I received this book for free from Bethany House Publishers. While the book was given to me to review, they expect me to give my honest opinion about the book.

I was really looking forward to receiving this book but must be honest, I wasn’t as impressed by the entire book as I had hoped to be. The beginning of the book explains how the authors came to their understanding of healing for today, and the stories are nothing short of amazing. However, the stories and theology behind healing – and whether it is still valid for today – took up two-thirds of the book. While the information was interesting, I really felt like it dragged on too long.

Once I got to the third section of the book, however, I was glad I had persevered in my reading. The book explained how we, as believers of the Risen Savior, can experience healing in our own bodies as well as praying for healing for those around us. In fact, they made a clear case for healing still being for today – not only for today – but until He returns again.

I would love to be able to say that I have actually been a part of a miraculous healing since reading this book, but I cannot. Do I believe healing is for today? Of course I do! The Bible says in Hebrews 13:8 that “Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today and forever.” If that is true, and I believe to be so, then of course I believe we should see miraculous healings today.

If you would like to have your faith in healing bolstered, go ahead and pick up a copy of The Essential Guide to Healing by Bill Johnson and Randy Clark. I believe you will walk away from reading this book with a renewed faith and a renewed sense of awe for the One Who has healing in His wings.
