Cast of Characters – Book Review
I received the book Cast of Characters by Max Lucado to review last year and realize I never did do it. I received the book through BookSneeze and apologize to them for not reviewing the book before now.
What can I say about Max Lucado that hasn’t already been said? He is a powerful writer who sees through the muck and the mire of humanity seen through the lives of well-known Bible characters. He creates stories that, even though they are fiction, you can easily see how these stories could have happened. He looks within the pages of Scripture, pulls out the questions that we may have all asked while reading the stories, and tries to put “flesh and blood” to the characters that are only seen on paper over thousands of years. His work is truly amazing.
Perhaps you’re not a regular Bible reader. Don’t let that stop you from picking up a copy of this book. The stories, although Bible characters, are ‘real’ and engaging. He lets you see how the people in the Bible were flawed just like we are. The book also lets you see that, even though they were not perfect, Yehovah (God) loved and used these people to affect all of history. Rather than seeing a group of perfect people who never made mistakes and never lost it when times were tough, we get a glimpse of how HE uses the most unlikely of people to further HIS kingdom and for HIS glory.
When I read this book, I was sure that I would enjoy it. What I didn’t expect was the impact it would have on me. I highly recommend it to anyone who enjoys a good story. I believe you’ll be able to see these characters through new eyes and seek out the ONE Who can take our messes and mistakes and use them in spite of us. I honestly think you will enjoy the book but may also find yourself in the pages when you read Cast of Characters.
