Do You Have a Few Bucks to Spare?

Each day when I sit down at my computer, I open up my email and see what’s happening. One story and link caught my eye.

The story was about an organization called Modest Needs (http://www.modestneeds.org/). The story is told how Keith Taylor, CEO of the organization, was thinking about the times in his life when he needed help and someone was willing to be kind enough to do so. He thought he could help others when he “became wealthy” and then decided not to wait. From that moment in time, and through the help of CNN, The Today Show, and others, Modest Needs has been able to help people who just need a little help.

The organization is set up so people can donate to specific causes such as a person needing to get their car fixed, or help paying rent, or something along those lines. Anyone can apply for aid, but they do have specific guidelines. One is that the need must have been generated within the last 90 days. Another is that the person applying must not be on government assistance or homeless; they feel other organizations may be better suited to help those people.

Before the need is listed in the Modest Needs site, staff members verify the application so donors aren’t throwing good money away. Then the situation is listed and people can decide to donate to that specific need. The concept is amazing and I pray they are able to continue to help those in need.

At this time of the year everyone’s thinking about gifts. Why not make a gift where it can make a huge difference in someone’s life? I may not have much money to share, but if my little is added with other people’s little, it might be enough to keep someone in their home or keep heat going for a family. And, in this season of giving, what more important gift could you give?
