A dismal failure

August 21, 2008 by · Leave a Comment

We started school on Monday.  It was a dismal failure.  I’m not ready and the kids aren’t ready.  But we trudged on.  I was hoping things would get easier.  Unfortunately, they didn’t. :(

I was trying to work and help the kids with schoolwork and it just wasn’t working.  We need to step back and I need to get myself more organized.  Although I’ve never been very good at keeping a schedule, it might be time to try that again.

I really NEED to concentrate on the kids while they’re doing schoolwork.  My working and their working just isn’t cutting it.  So, I plan on making some changes.  Just what those changes will be, I’m not sure yet.  I think if I can get them up and started earlier in the day, hopefully they can get done by lunch time.  Then in the afternoon they can work on individual things, or they can play education games.  Maybe that will give me the time I need, without too many interruptions, to get my work done before Dad gets home.

If we can get on a schedule, even if it’s only a loose one, things HAVE to get better, right?  I sure hope so, they can’t get any worse than they’ve been the last three days.

So, for the rest of this week, and all of the next, we’ve put school on hold.  The oldest is going to restart his work on Switched on Schoolhouse from scratch.  The younger one can keep going forward with what he started, but I’ll be able to add some additional subjects if I’m paying better attention to them.

I’ve been working so hard lately that I didn’t even go to sleep Tuesday night.  I had planned on working until I got two more articles written.  That was at 11:30 p.m.  I thought it wouldn’t take that long.  By the time I was able to find the information I needed and actually put words on paper . . . erm, word processing page . . . it was already 4:30.  Hubby would be up in an hour, there was no sense going to bed.

I struggled through the day and FINALLY got all my work done at midnight last night.  I went to bed and slept until 10 this morning.  I’m still tired, but I don’t think I can pull another all-nighter like that again.  I’m just not as young as I used to be – GASP! LOL

The boys are in their room “supposedly” cleaning up, but I hear more playing going on than cleaning.  Should that suprise me? Nope!  But, they’ve gotten a load of dishes in the dishwasher, one load of clothes washed and in the dryer, and another load in the wash.  So, they’re at least getting some chores done.

In the meantime, I’m going to try to get a jump on my next assignment and hope that I’ll be able to use my time more wisely.  We’ll see . . . I’m not holding my breath.

Have a great Thursday, and hopefully I’ll be back sooner to let you know how things are progressing.
