22 years and going strong

This weekend my sweetheart and I will celebrate our 22nd anniversary. It’s so hard to believe – not that we’ve made it this far but – that it’s gone by so fast. It seems like just yesterday that we were getting ready for our wedding.

I still remember the mess we had the day of our wedding. My soon-to-be mother-in-law was making our cakes. She forgot to mention that she had never decorated a wedding cake before. So on our wedding day we were running around the stores looking for the candy flowers. I guess we were gone for 2-3 hours. When we got home, my sister-in-law was decorating the cake and it ended up looking great.

When we got to the chapel the person who was providing our flowers told us he wasn’t going to continue in the business and gave us our flowers except for the down payment we’d paid him. Needless to say we were amazed to have the flowers given to us.

The wedding was small but it was beautiful. More than anything else, we were serious about our vows and STILL are. We’ve had our ups and downs, we’ve had moments when each one of us wanted to give up. We are committed to staying married for better or for worse, for richer and for poorer.

I have no idea what we’ll do for our anniversary. Maybe we’ll get the grandparents to babysit and we can go out to dinner. I really don’t know. It really doesn’t matter as long as I’m with him.
