The storms have passed
We had some bad weather yesterday where we live. It was pretty crazy. There were tornado warnings and watches from about 11a.m. until almost 5p.m. Thankfully, we didn’t sustain any damage at our home.
How about you? How did you weather the storms if they were in your area?
Jesus Calms the Storm
23 Then he got into the boat and his disciples followed him. 24 Without warning, a furious storm came up on the lake, so that the waves swept over the boat. But Jesus was sleeping. 25 The disciples went and woke him, saying, “Lord, save us! We’re going to drown!” 26 He replied, “You of little faith, why are you so afraid?” Then he got up and rebuked the winds and the waves, and it was completely calm.
27 The men were amazed and asked, “What kind of man is this? Even the winds and the waves obey him!”
First – you have to realize that even though you’re a Christian, and you’re walking with Jesus, the storms of life may still happen and they’ll come upon us unexpectedly. Being a Christian doesn’t keep you FROM the storms, it just means that Jesus will walk with you THROUGH the storms. He promises to never leave you for forsake you, so when the storms hit, you can have confidence that Jesus is WITH you.
Second - When the storms hit, we need to turn to Jesus. He IS there with us, so we need to turn, in faith, to Him. If we will trust Him, we know He will calm the storms, or He will calm us.
Third – Jesus expects us to have faith, that even though we may be faced with storms, that our faith will help see us through. But that faith has to be based on HIM, not on our own strength or our own intelligence. Yes, we need to think and act, but our faith is what will get us through.
Well, that’s my take on that particular story in Scripture. I’d love to hear what you think about it.
Be blessed and I’ll write more soon.
