Times are a changing

I’ve been doing a lot of thinking, but I guess I should be doing more praying. Things don’t always go so well in our homeschool, and I’ve been considering making some changes.

Since we have been feeling a pull more toward a Hebrew mindset of late, I have seriously been looking at Robin Sampson’s homeschool curriculum called “Heart of Wisdom.” I think we need to become more God-focused in our day. The Bible tells us in Matthew 6:33 that we’re to “Seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.” If that’s the case, and I believe that it is, then we’ve had our focus WAY off and we need to get it back on track.

Well, Robin’s having a contest where she’s giving away one of her books per week, starting on December 10 and going through January. If you homeschool, or are considering it, and would like to take a look, click on the ticket to go to the website and read more about the contest. If you have a blog, you can earn three entries for blogging about it and adding the ticket to your blog like I did.

We have been spending some time on Saturdays with our friends who are Messianic, or Torah observant as some people call it. They believe we’re to follow the instructions God gave in the Law of Moses (as much as is possible and pertains to life today). That means we’re to celebrate and keep the Sabbath (sundown Friday night to sundown Saturday night). We’ve been trying to do that. I think by using the Heart of Wisdom curriculum, it would help us to understand more what following the Torah entails. It would also require us to make some not-so-popular decisions about the holidays we celebrate.

We’re going over to our friend’s house on Sunday to have a Hanukkah party with them. Hanukkah started at sundown on Tuesday and will continue until sundown next Tuesday. We don’t have a menorah, or Hanukkiah, at home yet, so we’re not celebrating Hanukkah this year. I expect we will next year, as well as at least attempting to celebrate the major feasts spelled out in the Bible as being permanent “Holy Days” set aside by God Himself to be celebrated.

After learning some things about the true origins of Christmas, we’re thinking about not celebrating that past this year. The jury’s still out on that one. I think my hubby hasn’t gotten that revelation entirely down into his soul yet, so until he does, we’ll continue to follow his lead.

I guess I’ve carried on long enough about the things that have been going through my alleged mind.  Have a great Thursday and don’t forget to tell your kids that you love them. Be blessed!
