Is it 2008 yet?

There is a part of me that absolutely loves the next two months because it’s a time to enjoy being with family and friends. There’s generally food galore (which might not necessarily be a “GOOD” thing), and people are usually happier. However, there’s also a side of me that hates the holidays. I guess I’m just getting into that “holiday rush” spirit already.
There are less than 2 months until Christmas, and already I feel like I’m behind in the gift buying department. Of course, I’ve been discussing with the kids the possibility of making gifts rather than buying them. I think they’re excited about making soap for the family family members. But I really can’t think of anything to make for the men folk.
And, of course, while the boys might be willing to GIVE homemade gifts, they really aren’t too enthused about RECEIVING homemade gifts. Go figure!
I guess one thing that bothers me is that I’m not a materialistic person. I don’t WANT a lot of stuff (you might not believe that by looking at my house, but honestly most of it’s NOT mine). There are a few things I would like – a new wedding band because I lost mine about 2 weeks ago, a new toilet seat because the bolts rusted through on ours and the seat won’t stay put when I get off of it [[blush]], and some new blue jeans but that’s because I’ve either outgrown mine or they’re in need of repair that I don’t know how to do. So, all-in-all, it seems that my husband is going to get off cheap this year.
He, on the other hand, has already asked for a Tallit (Jewish prayer shawl) [not a cheap item], wants a new belt sander to replace the one that tore up, a couple of computer games [that aren't cheap], and a couple of other things. I think in all, what he wants will cost almost $350 or more.
The kids would like to get a Wii (as would their dad), and if I were to buy that, it would be the only thing they’d get. That is IF I could find one. They also want everything new they see on TV (thank you advertisers for making my life a living nightmare). Thankfully, they’re not girls, or it could be SO MUCH worse.
Well, I’ve bellyached about this enough. It may pop up on the blog again, and if it does, just bear with me. I’m surrounded by the gimmes.
Be blessed and have a great week!

My darling friend, I hear ya! I have had the gimmes in my house for a couple of weeks now, yet nobody seems to have written out their Christmas list.
I told the kids we have to finish up everything we are working on in homeschool right now so we can start on the Christmas stuff…and they asked me if the could do Santas and reindeer…but no mention of Christ or the real meaning of the holiday. So, there will be no ‘fun’ stuff (as they call it) until after everyone is sure they understand the real meaning of Christmas.
That could take awhile with my bunch…sigh.
I’ll see if I can come up with any ‘manly’ ideas for homemade gifts, and I’ll let you know my darling dear. Have a great day! Love ya lots!

Well, Steph, if anyone can come up with some ideas, I’m SURE you can! LOL
When you figure out how to handle the gimmes, let me know. Maybe it’ll work on my two.
