I can’t wait!

dinner.jpgA week from Thursday is Thanksgiving here in the States (for those of my friends that live outside the States), and I personally can’t wait.

My parents live about 5 1/2 hours north of us, and I’ve only seen them once this year. The boys keep asking when we’re going to see Grandma and Grandpa. Well, I guess Thanksgiving will be the trip. I am so looking forward to being with MY family again. They may be a little nutty at times, but that’s alright. I’m used to nutty, I have two boys!

My two brothers live close by my parents – at least within the same small town. My older sister lives in Pennsylvania, and I’m in Alabama. I guess that makes us spread out a bit. Because of that, it’s not often that we all get together. I’m sure my sister won’t be here for Thanksgiving, but at least I’ll get to see my parents and my brothers.

I really thought we’d get to see my family more often when my sweetie and I got married. At the time, we lived in Kentucky (about 4 hours from my parents), but then we moved. Oh, we’ve gotten to spend plenty of holidays with my in-laws over theĀ  past 21 years, but haven’t really gotten to spend that many with my family. Guess I should have known. . .

I don’t mean to sound like I’m complaining, I just miss my family. There are times when I ache to see them, but I try not to show it. (Hubby doesn’t pick up on it too well, either. :( ) But I need to know that they love me, even though I’m so far away. You know, sometimes nothing will calm you down like a hug from Mom or Dad.

I dread the actual drive, and I hate to leave, but I’m going to enjoy each and every moment in between. I honestly don’t know when we’ll be able to make it back, which is another frustration I have. But, whenever that is, I know the doors will be open (if not, I have a key ;) ), and I’ll find the love I so desperately need.

It may have been said that you “can’t go home again.” Maybe it’s true, to a degree. But it’s nice to know that I have someplace to go where I’ll be loved, and accepted, and maybe even babied just a little bit. Thanks Mom and Dad, you’re the best!
